THE FUTURIST Vol. 36, Iss. 3, p. 66 Nov.-Dec. 1995 THE VENUS PROJECT Visionary engineer Jacque Fresco has just published a book describing the Venus Project, a model cybernetic city of the future that he is constructing in Florida with his partner, Roxanne Meadows. The book, The Venus Project: The Redesign of a Culture, includes photos of some of Fresco's most-intriguing inventions, such as a cybernated space station and futuristic aircraft, as well as the computer-controlled-city design concept. The Venus Project is more than a set of technologies applied to building utopian habitats. In the book, Fresco also details his philosophy and hopes for what the Venus Project and similar ideas may do for the future of humanity. Social issues such as privacy, work and leisure, and democracy and decision making are also a part of the Project. The book describes in more detail the glimpse of the Project that Fresco provided recently in THE FUTURIST (see "Desiging the Future: A Cybernetic City for the Next Century," May-June 1994). |
